I just ran into a woman I know who is planning on hiking the Appalachian trail this coming year, starting in March. To see her doing training walks like I did last year, to hear her making plans and see her excitement mixed with the unknown, it makes me very nostalgic. So, I just quickly wanted to say, because it’s the time of year when people start to seriously get ready for their thru-hike, to all of you out there getting ready to embark: good luck. The AT isn’t for everyone but if you can stick it out, if you can fight through the pain and weather and bugs and terrain you will come out the other end so enriched. From someone who has done it, don’t give up, even when everything seems futile, just remember how lucky and free and unencumbered you are and keep going! It is so worth it in the end. And here is another snippet of our hike, a hilarious video of Kyle dancing whilst hiking that he will be very embarrassed about when he finds out I have posted it online. Enjoy.
